Noida to privatise solid-waste management....will have high-tech security arrangemenbts..says Chairman Noida 'The (Noida) authority will soon invite private institutes or organizations to work in partnership with the government, to manage the garbage,' Noida Authority chairman Mohinder Singh said addressing students at the International Media Institute of India (IMII) here Thursday. Answering questions posed by the students, Singh urged them to look at the glass as half full rather than half empty while admitting that Noida has 'some serious problems to solve'. 'Noida has seen a remarkable growth in recent times, with many malls and IT companies locating in the city, and with that growth comes problems,' Singh said. Giving an illustrated plan to deal with the problems, Singh spelt out a series of measures including setting up of advanced surveillance system to deal with security issues and a new power plant being planned. Referring to the sanitation problem and piles of uncleared garbage at various places in the city, Singh said an elaborate plan for waste management is being prepared by the authority. 'We have identified dumping grounds where the non-biodegradable and non-recyclable waste will be dumped. However, 70 percent of the garbage is bio-degradable,' he said. sked about the sewage that poses a great health threat to Noida, Singh said that a case is being pursued against the Delhi government in the Supreme Court as untreated sewage from Delhi was the biggest problem. 'Noida's sewage processing rate is one of the highest in Uttar Pradesh as well as the country, with only 60 percent of its sewage being treated currently. Unfortunately, many of the drains that pass through Noida start from Delhi, and the only way to clean (them) is by forcing Delhi to treat its sewage before letting it into Noida,' he said adding that Noida will be in a position to treat 100 percent of its sewage by 2012. Talking about the law and order issues in the suburb, Singh said that advanced surveillance systems will be put in place soon to control the situation. 'The city will soon employ advanced technologies like the Geographical Information System (GIS) and surveillance systems with cameras mounted at vantage points,' Singh said adding, 'we have security issues everywhere but things about Noida are often blown out of proportion'. Talking about the endemic power woes of the suburb, Singh said that a new power plant with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts is in the planning stages and will be in operation by 2015. The Noida chairman also stressed the inclusion of peripheral villages within the city planning to ensure sustainable development. 'Sustainable growth is necessary, development of villages is essential. It is necessary to put forward their felt views and needs,' he added.

GOM meet on Greater Noida Airport on 15th July 2010
A group of ministers-cum-lawyers comprising P Chidambaram, H R Bhardwaj and Kapil Sibal and aviation minister Praful Patel set up to examine the legal aspects of having an airport in Greater Noida is scheduled to hold its first meeting on 15th July . An earlier meeting, which was scheduled about two months ago, was postponed indefinitely. Taj international aviation hub (TIAH) is 72 km from IGI Airport. Mayawati proposes to build the Rs 3,505-crore TIAH on about 3,700 acres. The GMR-backed Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) said at the time of privatising IGI, it was not told that a second airport will be built within a 150-km radius. Union cabinet had earlier given an in-principle approval, and the Centre set up the GoM to examine the legality of the proposal. DIAL has asked the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to study the traffic growth in the region.
Aditya Ghildyal Vice president of Association of Greater Noida Industries and adviser parichowk.com says the airport decision would basically be a political one....

A long-pending proposal of the Uttar Pradesh government to set up a greenfield international airport at Greater Noida will come up for discussion before a Group of Ministers on Wednesday. Source PTI
The GoM on Jhevar airport is headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram and has Law Minister Veerappa Moily, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel as its members. The matter had been discussed by an earlier GoM set up by the UPA-I regime which could not reach a conclusion. A major reason for this was the objection raised on the issue by the GMR-led consortium, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) that operates the Delhi airport. It had cited its Operations Management and Development Agreement with the Airports Authority of India, quoting existing rules to say that no airport can be built within 150 km of the IGI airport at Delhi. However, the Union Cabinet''s clearance to a second airport in Goa at Mopa three days ago could pave the way for a similar clearance for the Greater Noida airport. The proposed Mopa airport is about 70 kms from the existing Dabolim Airport in Goa. Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra and Kannur in Kerala fall within a 150 km radius of existing airports at Mumbai and Kozhikode. However, the concession agreement also provides for a clause on the ''Right of First Refusal'' (RoFR) to the GMR-led consortium which enables it to be the preferred bidder for a new airport in the vicinity of the existing one. Airport consultants have wondered why this clause was included in the concession agreement if there was no legal provision for a second airport to come up within a 150 km radius unless the first one gets saturated. The legal issues have been examined by Attorney General Milon Banerjee, including on the RoFR clause, and a report submitted to the government. Sources said that the 150 km-rule was a major reason why the proposal for the Jhevar airport was held up so far and added that there was no other major stumbling block. "Across the world there are many airports within a 150 km radius of each other," they said giving examples of major cities like London, Paris and New York which have more than one airport within this range.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta Friday moved a fresh representation before the union civil aviation ministry seeking its clearance for setting up an international airport and aviation hub in Jewar village of Greater Noida. "The ministry has already given its go-ahead for parallel international airports not very far from the existing terminals in Goa and Kochi," he said.

Uttar Pradesh again pushes for airport at Greater Noida
Armed with stronger documentation, the Uttar Pradesh government has again approached the central government with its proposal to set up an international airport in Greater Noida town, an official said Saturday. Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta Friday moved a fresh representation before the union civil aviation ministry seeking its clearance for setting up an international airport and aviation hub in Jewar village of Greater Noida, bordering the national capital. Referring to the central government's argument that a parallel international airport could not be allowed in the state within 150 km radius of the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, Gupta told IANS Saturday: 'We have sought to draw the union government's attention to similar exemptions given in Goa and Cochin.' 'The ministry has already given its go-ahead for parallel international airports not very far from the existing terminals in Goa and Kochi,' he said. In his letter to union Civil Aviation Secretary M. Madhavan Nambiar, the chief secretary pointed out: 'We have also carried out a fresh techno-feasibility report, as per your advice.' The report was prepared after a detailed survey by Larsen and Toubro - Ramboll Consulting Engineers Ltd. 'The report clearly points out that the setting up of a new international airport at Jewar would have only a marginal impact on air traffic at Delhi airport,' Gupta said. Besides relieving the pressure on Delhi airport, the proposed airport at Jewar is expected to be a boon for international tourists heading for Taj Mahal in Agra, he said. 'With the Taj Expressway likely to be completed this year, the driving time between Jewar and Agra would be reduced to less than an hour,' he claimed. Earlier in February, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati sent a delegation of 24 party MPs to meat union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel to push the state's demand for the new aviation hub and airport. ,,,IANS |
June 2, 2010..The new detailed project report (DPR) of Metro line from Noida to Greater Noida has been handed over to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. As per the DPR, approval for two new stations has been given on the route. This has been done on the request of the Greater Noida Authority. Noida-Greater Noida Metro project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012. According to Manoj Kumar Singh, CEO of the Greater Noida Authority, the officials’ committee will meet on June 7 after studying the DPR. Only then a decision will be taken about the Greater Noida Metro project. After the committee members reach a consensus, work on the Metro line will be taken. Manoj Kumar Singh said as per the new DPR two new stops would be added. The stops would be between Pari Chowk and Bodaki. On Greater Noida Authority’s suggestion, the Metro route has been extended from Phase-II to Bodaki. Earlier, it was up to Knowledge Park-4 via Pari Chowk. Part of the track will be elevated while the rest of it will be on the ground. The CEO said the ratio of the fund to be borne by each authority would also be decided in the officials’ meeting. It will be on the basis of the length of Metro track in the territory of Noida and Greater Noida Authority respectively. One meeting between the DMRC officials and the Greater Noida Authority was already held on May 16. The DMRC had presented a projection of Metro track along the Expressway in the last week of May. According to plans starting from Noida Sector-32, Metro will reach Pari Chowk in Greater Noida via Phase-2 and Expressway, it is learnt. |
